Art as Self-Identification in Palazzo Avogadro

Moving through the rooms of Palazzo Avogadro elucidates how Cardinal Francesco del Monte organized art around his house to intimate to his visitors his political, social, and cultural status, as well as fortify his own sense of self-identity. To do so, we must turn to the inventory of del Monte's collection, compiled by bishop Alessandro Del Monte, following the Cardinal's death.

First, we will tour the Great Hall, home to more than 270 portraits. Next, we will cross the corridor into the New Narrow Gallery, displaying 20 paintings. Finally, we will make our way upstairs into the New Apartment to view a more intimate collection of paintings. Advance to the "Great Hall" on the sidebar to begin the tour.
